The book is set during “Batwara” or The Partition of India, a time when India and Pakistan became separate countries. This was a very difficult time for many people, and the story helps us understand what it was like through a small child Roop’s eye.
The story has been been set up with a background of protest happening around family’s home and how the people of the community are supporting the cause together. It again shows the curious mind of the girl who inspite of her father’s resentment, goes forward to be a part of the protest.
