We love Sonia Mehta’s books. So when this book arrived for our review, we were beyond excited. We have read and re-read this book so many times now and have loved it a little more every time.
I found this book really unique as despite being a bedtime book, it explores different geographies of the world! The book is a collection of 4 stories about a girl Eppy who, along with her cat Tango, loves going on adventures to new places. She is brave and inquisitive. In each of the stories, she explores a different geography – Norway, Savanna in Africa, Japan and the Desert in Jordan.
With each of Eppy’s adventurous voyages, the reader is introduced to some really interesting geographical facts about the places she visits, the flora & fauna and the culture of the region. Eppy’s ease of making friends is very encouraging for little ones who may be shy.
Ishani’s favourite story is the last one where Eppy meets a Haboob.
In this story, Eppy gets lost in the desert when she decides to go for a walk leaving her guide behind. She meets a girl and then her Bedouin family who invite her for a meal with them as guests are very important in their culture. While still with them, there is news of a Haboob, a dust storm in the desert, arriving. Everyone takes cover and sits tightly through the haboob, which lasts for 2 hours. Thankfully, she is spending time with the family when the haboob strikes and hence she is safe. She also discovers many facts about deserts like the mirage, temperatures, bedouins, camels etc.
Just like all other Sonia Mehta books, this book is written in simplest language for little readers to understand. The illustrations capture the beauty of the places very well. This is a good book to introduce the love for travelling to little minds.
