I am posting this review on behalf of my 10 year old son Divit.
I have read Smash It, ‘Buttterfingers’ which was a lovely chapter book by author Khyrunissa A. I expected this one to be a chapter book too, but to my surprise, it turned out to be a comic book (graphic novel)! And what fun to find this has three different stories of adventures of our butterfingers a.k.a Amar which were completely engrossing. From chasing to solve the mystery of the baby shoes to the adventure in Texas around his cowboy hat… the stories are totally packed with action. My favourite one though is the third story!
This is the one which starts off with an angry Amar, stomping his feet as he made his way to the principal’s office. He had failed to complete his homework so his teacher had rudely told him ,”Amar! Principal’s office! Now!”. As he entered the principal’s office, Mr Jagmohan started giving him a lecture. Which was when they heard an ear-splitting BANG! And that was the explosion in the chemistry lab.
The chemistry lab had to be extinguished as Mr. Shyam, the chemistry teacher of their school, had put it it on fire! The damage was so much that it would take a lot of money to fix it and the school didn’t have as much funds! And now that the board didn’t want to pay, what could they do?
Would they give up and risk not getting any new admissions? Or would they sign up for a tough challenge to save the chemistry lab? You got to read it, to find out!
I like this book as it shows us to not give up and to try to find a solution to every problem through each story. The simple writing style and the wonderful illustrations make the book very interactive. I really like the protagonist of this series Amar a.k.a. Butterfingers and all the awesome adventures he always finds himself in. He is just another boy like me and is so relatable.
