My 6 and 9 year old kids loved the story of Chumki And The Pangolin. I am posting this review on behalf of them.
Chumki and the Pangolin is written by Lesley D. Biswas and illustrated by Anupama Ajinkye Apte.
It’s a beautiful story which gives the message of courage and empathy.
The book describes the tough times faced by the villagers during the pandemic. How people had to leave the village and move to cities to earn money and then how they were left unemployed as pandemic hit and they had to return back to the village facing great difficulties.
Chumki and her brother realised the helplessness of their father when they got to know that they are left with no money even to buy a sack of rice. Instead of panicking, they helped their father and together they solved the problem.
This story speaks great volumes about Chumki’s love and protective nature for animals.
Chumki has befriended a pangolin and the village poachers are trying to trap the pangolin for animal trade. Chumki and her brother have decided to save the Pangolin from these traffickers and get them arrested by the wildlife crime department. Chumki and her brother raise awareness about endangered animal species and put up a brave front to save the Pangolin.
It’s a pleasant read which describes the simple village life and the emotions for the love of animals, family ties, friendship, sibling bond, etc.
Everyone should pick up a copy and read till what extent the siblings went to save the Pangolin and whether they were successful in doing so, in this heart touching story.
The kids wanted to read more and more on Chumki and her brother Akki and are looking forward for the next book in the series 🙂
