Comprehensive & Concise
50 Great Indians is a thoughtful curation of true stories of India’s finest achievers. The author has mindfully selected these Great Achievers from multiple fields ranging from science to sports, artists to social activists. There were many stories that my 9-year-old and I were not aware of and am grateful to have come across such inspirational tales. It really celebrates India’s diversity and values and how we as a nation are privileged to have many achievers such as Pandit Birju Maharaj and APJ Abdul Kalam.
Unlike my earlier belief, this non-fiction appealed to my kid and we made it a ritual to read a story a night for bedtime reading. As a proud Indian Mom, I was only happy to encourage reading about our achievers. I think it is important to share these stories especially when there is a lot more focus on global stories compared to one’s closer home.
Each story is a micro biopic that provides a good balance of brevity and motivating lessons. The stories share interesting and less-known facts about each achiever.
What I really appreciated was that the author did not just share facts about each Great Indian but brought out a theme that was critical to their achievement. The stories also. include a meaningful analogy that helps the reader appreciate and understand the theme better.
Overall a very well written, crisp and comprehensive curation of our Great Indians.
