There is this little dot of kindness which was walking along. As soon as she saw someone being kind in any way, the dot grew. It kept growing on spreading kindness along the way. Soon she met a big ball of anger. Will the kindness alone be able to comfort that ball of anger?

Such a beautiful story which displays how kindness grows and spreads if shown to others filling everyone’s heart with happiness. Illustrations are beautiful and the story rhymes which makes it super fun to it.

ACADEMIC RESOURCES

Sharadhi’s Stavya asked her to teach more about fractions… She shared books that helped in the fb group with inside pages here. Excerpts from her detailed post:

1) Usborne Fractions and Decimals: (lift the flap maths)

Amazing book with very easy to understand language, starting from the basics of what is fraction, it goes into deep understanding of more complex challenges like sorting, comparing, percentages etc. It is also very colourful and interactive. Kids would want to dive in, flip style makes it more understandable eg: if we divide one pizza between two and flip style shows the way it’s divided… Loved this book, good for ages 6-8 yrs.

2) Building blocks of mathematics-fractions – by Joseph Mudthun and Samuel Hiti

This is by far the best book for kids about fractions … Who can teach fractions better than a fraction itself… Looks like an animation comic book, with a story style of narrations… It can’t get better than that … Kids (ages 6-8 years) can self read and understand… Great book.

3) Working with fractions – by David A Adler and Edward Miller

This book gives us the idea of how to teach fraction problems to kids… The book mostly contains birthday themes with examples of cake fractions, musical chair, balloons etc . I would suggest if we already know about fractions then this book would help understand the real life applications of it… Good for kids ages 6-8 yrs, colorful, creative.. Kids could do this at home and understand better.

4) Fractions and Decimals – Rebecca Wingard- Nelson

When we were trying to find books on fractions this is the first one we saw at the library.. However this could be good for now older kids about 12 and above. Very complex for kids and lacks the charm to attract younger audience… This is mostly like workbook which is test oriented as the name says.

5) Fractions=Trouble! Claudia Mills and G. Brian Karas

Wilson Williams the character of this book has struggles with math and is in grade 3.. it ends well with bad times turning to good times, engaging story to capture children’s feelings, frustrations and dialogues.. However I feel the kids might get an idea that math is tough and not really loved much , if they don’t hang on to it longer.. Good for kids around 9-12 yrs.
