A monster-like character who is not too scary, but definitely not friendly!
This is definitely one of my favourites and of my five year old as well. I started to read this story when he was four years old. The reason why my child loves the story is because of the description of the ugly Gruffalo. Julia does a wonderful job in creating a fictional monster like character which is not too scary but definitely not friendly.
Mouse meets Gruffalo!
I love this book all for the good moral value. A small mouse is wondering in the woods all by himself. He meets with a snake, a fox and an owl. All of them try to eat him up. But he shows his intelligence and makes up a fictional friend called the Gruffalo.
Intelligence is mightier than muscle
To his surprise and what an incredible coincidence that the same mouse encounters that exact same Gruffalo that matched his made up description. The story takes an interesting twist when the Gruffalo wants to eat him. Yet again, the mouse proves that intelligence is mightier then muscle. He escapes the Gruffalo and is safe at last.
It is a motivating tale especially for young children who do feel they are still small in size.
When I read this story I always tell my boy – “See, it’s not about size. What is important is how clever and brave you are.”
