There is a new series in town by Tanushree Podder for 6/7-10 year olds. And three lucky children got to review these new releases!
Boo-Boo’s Adventures
Boo-Boo Investigates
Boo-Boo the Eco-Warrior
Book Title : Boo-Boo Investigates
Author: Tanushree Podder
Illustrator: Papiya Saha Singha
Publisher : Om Books International
Type : Paperback
Recommended Age : 6/7-10 years (7 year olds and above will be able to self read)
Young kids (and their parents) generally like to stay away from books that have a ghost as the main character. Nobody wants to deal with unwanted nightmares! However, Boo-Boo is not a typical ghost – she is adorable and cute, very fond of wearing fancy clothes, plus dangling earrings, and just like most other children, has great trouble counting (which is a big problem because she has 130 cousins!!).
In Boo-Boo Investigates, Boo-Boo turns detective along with her eight year old human friend, Tanya. Together they go on many adventures, and solve many mysteries from catching a pasta hungry lunchbox thief at school to finding the lost puppy Rambo. While Tanya and her parents can see Boo-Boo, nobody else can, and this makes for exciting “investigative” opportunities!
My seven year old loved reading the book, and stayed up till 11.30pm one day to finish it completely! As per him, some of the things he loved about the book were:
1. Each chapter is a separate adventure and story, which have their own titles. He loves the fact that he can go back and re-read his favourite Boo-Boo adventure, without having to comb through several chapters / pages.
2. He loves the combination of big and small font size used, which makes the text easy and attractive to read.
His most favourite story was of Boo-Boo catching the thieves, and I could hear him giggling while he read it. Though he reads mostly by himself, he loves sharing the parts of the book that he finds funny, and imagining a rolling pin flying through the air, was hilarious!
The font, as Neil pointed out, is not only easy to read but the different sizes used, make it attractive for kids. Even though the book is low on illustrations, the exciting story is enough to keep the readers glued to the book.
Additionally, as a parent, I found that the author has put in effort to not only provide the children with an enjoyable reading experience but also enhance their emotional quotient and learning, without being preachy. She has brilliantly woven the story such that the reader feels empathy for the lunchbox thief, realises why taking the law into our hands isn’t a good idea and also why learning maths is important, all while solving thrilling mysteries! If you want your child to giggle away with Boo-Boo, do get this amazing book!

Achira has shared her 7yo son, Adu’s review:
“Meet Boo-Boo. She was the youngest in the ghost family who lived in a forest called Kapukapi.
Boo-Boo had a human friend Tanya. Humans could only see Boo-Boo if she chanted a magic spell. She used the magic spell to make Tanya see her. Tanya studied in the third grade and was an intelligent girl. Tanya had made a group of eco warriors. The eco warriors are a group of children who help the environment.
One evening Boo-Boo came to Tanya’s house. He was surprised to see that Tanya was not at school. Tanya was in bed and was coughing badly. She couldn’t even breathe properly. Boo Boo was surprised and wondered why Tanya was so sick! Turned out it was people burning garbage that was causing pollution. Boo-Boo knew he had to help so he and Tanya cracked up a plan. They solved the case of the burning garbage by making posters and saying no to plastic. They assembled the eco warrior group and set into action making newspaper bags and set up a stall to encourage people to use them instead of plastic bags. One small step from the children indeed set an example for the adults also.
Boo-Boo, Tanya and the eco warrior gang solved many mysteries thereby saving the environment.
I loved the book because it has such a nice message to help save the environment. The illustrations are wonderful and the writing style kept me engaged.”
As a parent I would say Adu really enjoyed reading this book. It’s a beautiful collection of stories about Boo-Boo and his friend Tanya who are on a mission to save the environment. In particular, I really liked the simple language and the way some words have been written in a larger font to make it catchy. We had lots of fun in spelling out the words.

Boo-Boo’s Adventures is the first ever ghost book that Ishani has ever read. When her friends told her about ghosts, Ishani asked us what ghosts were and whether they were scary. Of course, we did not want her to be scared so we told her that ghosts do not exist. This book is the first ever she read with ghosts in it and what better way to talk about ghosts to kids than this beautifully written funny book about Boo-Boo, a friendly little ghost?!
Boo-Boo’s adventures is the first in the Boo-Boo series of books written Tanushree Podder, a grandmother inspired by her grandson to write for children.
Ishani loved reading the book so much that she was glued on it till she finished it. This is a story of a friendly ghost Boo-Boo and her adventures involving good deeds. Boo-Boo is the youngest of a large ghost family that lives on a 500-year old Banyan tree. The great-grandpa or GGPa, as he is addressed by Boo-Boo, has instructed all the ghosts to do good deeds and make human friends. The one who does the best will be awarded a prize. Boo-Boo, determined to win the prize, makes efforts to save the lake from garbage, remembers to be truthful, helps everyone in need and finally manages to make a human friend, Tanya, as well. Tanya and Boo-Boo then become very good friends and meet every day while Tanya teaches Boo-Boo numbers, the alphabet and many other things. Tanya and Boo-Boo decide to become Eco-Warriors and save the planet.
The stories are so engaging and written in the simplest language. The large font makes it so easy for the young readers. Despite the fact that there are limited illustrations, I didn’t find Ishani looking bored even once while reading the book. She especially enjoyed the story where Boo-Boo saves the lake as the invisible Boo-Boo carries a bucket full of garbage away from the lake.
Boo-Boo’s adventures is an absolutely funny, engaging and empathetic book for young readers. And as I mentioned earlier, I could not find a better book to make the topic of ghosts ‘not scary’ for my little girl.
If you would want to introduce your child to ghosts in the funniest and cutest way possible, this is definitely the book for them. To order this book from Amazon (kbc affiliate link),
