Hi, I’m Priti Luthra, and I’m posting this review on behalf of my 9 year old daughter, Poorvi Chhura.
This is a realistic fictional story set up in a Muslim household in recent years. It’s a story of a 7 year old strong-willed girl who is trying to find her own space. She wants to grow and learn new things without offending her over-protective father who is not very keen for his child to try any activity that may hurt her. I am sure a lot of kids would be able to relate to this.
The story has been been set up with a background of protest happening around family’s home and how the people of the community are supporting the cause together. It again shows the curious mind of the girl who in spite of her father’s resentment, goes forward to be a part of the protest.
The girl’s aspirations to learn cycling and getting up on a tree shows how small wins can be so important achievements in kids’ lives.
I particularly liked the situations where it showed that how the women of the family were much more stronger in there mind and behaviour as compared to girl’s ‘worrier’ Abba.
All in all, this is a sweet story about a strong-willed girl and situations around her. It’s a quick read with not many pages and lots of pictures that helped me visualise the story. I specially loved the hole in the book to tie some pretty threads and make my own book mark.
To conclude, I really liked reading it and I think you should read it too.
